[Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia] Beef noodles from Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock

Hakka beef noodles from 7-decade-old MICHELIN Bib Gourmand-listed Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles for breakfast this Friday (Nov 15) morning:

Current owner-chef is Anthony Koon, 37. He’s the third-generation of the Koon family running this beef noodle stall.

The first time I ate here back in 2011, his father, Koon Dai Shin, now 74, was running the place. The older Koon is retired now and stays at home. Both father and son are some of the friendliest people around.

A standard order here consists of blanched Hakka noodles with a toothsome texture, topped with minced beef that’s been cooked with a blend of dark soy sauce, minced garlic, bean sauce and other condiments, sprinkled with chopped green scallions.

The accompanying clear beef broth contained beef sirloin strips, minced beef balls, and beef tripe.

One of the best beef noodles in town, besides Lai Foong and Soong Kee across the road.

Shin Kee is one of my favourite places in KL and your order is what I normally have. They quite often run out of yellow noodles and I would have the flat rice noodles instead, still great. I recommended it to the SIL when she was in KL and she loved it.

Have you tried Soong Kee? That’s my personal favorite.

Is that the one across the road? I think you took me there when you were living in KL. It was very good as was the noodle place you took me to. The one with the very dark sauce ( by KL standards) and livers ( duck or chicken,) porky bits and other good stuff, can’t remember the name right now.

These places look close to the hotel I’ll be staying out in KL’s Chinatown next week. Our original hotel cancelled on us at short notice so I had to scramble to find a replacement and we managed to rebook at a place on Jalan Raja Chulan.

I’ll have to put these on my list!

I’ve recently been unwell and had a minor operation, so my previous grand plans might need to be replaced by more moderate strolling around the locality near my hotel. We have booked a dinner at Adu Sugar though.

Yes! I forgot I’d shown you that. In my 6-7 years of living in KL, I made about 1,300 posts on Chowhound about eating places there - sometimes, I forget that I’d been to some of those places till I got there again.

Oh dear, when you mentioned an operation in one of your earlier posts, I’d thought you were involved in one on someone else, and not you receiving treatment.

Do take care now.

Thanks very much. This also looks like a hopefully easy walk from my hotel.
