[Kuala Lumpur] Breakfast at Antipodean, Bangsar Village.

NZ-owned Antipodean is one of KL’s hottest breakfast spots, impossibly crowded at weekends whence snaring a table can be a trial. But on weekday mornings, Antipodean takes on a laidback, Kiwi-like atmosphere, such as this morning when we decided to pay it a visit in view of Waitangi Day - commemorated in New Zealand as the day when the nation was “founded” as part of the Commonwealth when the British Crown signed a treaty with the Maori chiefs. Antipodean’s famed caffeine beverages take on a distinctly Waitangi-esque appearance today:

Our breakfast options consisted of:

  1. Avocado on toast with grilled tomato and crispy bacon.

and 2) Scrambled eggs on toast with feta cheese and spinach.

Antipodean’s food is straightforward, but the offerings have improved distinctively in the past 5 years, as the appearance of new rivals in the neighbourhood keep it on its toes - think, Breakfast Thieves and PULP by Papa Palheta at Jalan Riong, 3 Little Pigs & the Big Bag Wolf at Bangsar Village I, Dr.Inc at Jalan Kemuja, and even the upcoming branch of Pudu sensation, VCR.
