Definitely! Let’s plan to do something on Monday, Jan 27, if it fits into your plans - I’ll message you.
BTW, Chinese New Year 2025 falls on Wed, Jan 29, and almost everything will be shut down! Little India, in the middle of George Town’s old quarter, will be open, of course, so you can find a lot of good South Indian cuisine, although they’ll be more packed than usual as most Chinese eating places will be shut.
Chinese New Year Eve, Tue Jan 28 is when the Chinese (who makes up the majority of the population of George Town) perform their traditional ancestor worship rituals before noon. You can still find some street food places still open in the morning, but many will be closed already for this prayer ritual. That evening, the Chinese will have their traditional family reunion dinners. You will find most Chinese restaurants either fully-booked out, or else closed. Your best bet will be to try Indian, Malay or Western/continental eateries such as SmokePapa.
Not the most ideal time to be in Penang, but I think we can still make the best of it.
