Kogetsu-Do in Fresno

I’m surprised I haven’t posted about Kogetsu-Do in Fresno before now. It’s a small, family run Japanese confectionary in a really tired part of downtown Fresno, in what used to be a modestly thriving Japantown/Chinatown. They make all sorts of mochi and manju by hand, and specialize in seasonal fruit fillings. Yesterday I picked up an assortment, and the fresh fruit varieties were blackberry and blueberry. They also use pie fillings for other fruits out of season, as well as more traditionally filled goodies with red or lima beans.

Open only Friday-Monday, and pretty limited in their hours, from 9am-1pm, but I called a few days in advance and they opened up for me at 8am to pick up my order. I try to hit them up whenever I’m in Fresno (which is only about 1 or 2 times a year). They’re pretty easy access from Highway 99, too.

ETA: Cash only!
