Key Food has finally opened, after at least five years of “Coming Soon” (and probably more, since I think it predated COVID). It’s basically a small grocery store, about the size of Livoti’s, but carrying the full range of products, from produce to cleaning supplies. The aisles are narrow, and the shelves are high, so it gets a lot in that space. (The aisles are not accessible to wheelchair users.) Prices seem comparable to ShopRite. There is parking in back.
Positive: They have tomatillos — and they actually have tomatillos, unlike ShopRite, which has been out for at least two weeks. (And they have a big pile of decent-sized ones, not a half dozen minuscule remnants.) They have two-pound bags of yellow onions, rather than three-pound bags. They don’t make you buy ten ears of corn to get the sale price.
Negative: Their Hispanic section is almost entirely Goya, with which I have an issue. The high shelves could be a problem for me. And the range is closer to that of an Aldi than a large supermarket.
