Katsu curry in San Francisco's Japan Center

One of my husband’s favorite foods is katsu curry. We’ll be at the Japan Center in San Francisco this week, but we haven’t been there in a few years. Any good places to have it there? On The Bridge seems to have it on the menu, but I’ve read so many mixed reviews for them. Thanks.

I didn’t have it myself but I know a few people who liked their katsu at Ganji

Every time I go to On The Bridge, I feel like Alice in Alice in Wonderland, except the Wonderland is a bad anime episode.

I prefer Ku Shin Bo in J-Town, not just for Katsu, but for unagi don.

I had a good katsu curry at Ganji in the Buchanan Mall next to Ramen Yamadaya a few months ago that I never got around to writing about. I had the ganji katsu, which on the menu is described as a “7 hours slow-cooked daily special katsu,” with truffle salt. It was a little pricy at $30. I remember the katsu being quite tender inside.

That does look good.

Although I have mixed feelings about “truffle salt.” It’s just so un-Japanese. Aside from being just a total fraud of a seasoning.

Yeah, I don’t remember tasting much if any truffle in the katsu.

I feel like that’s a good thing.

Not in Japantown, but some of my favorite places for japanese curry are:

https://curryhyuga.com - I’ve been to the Burlingame location and enjoyed it, not the SF location

https://www.nipponcurry.com - Had takeout from there a couple of times (in marina)

https://www.delacuro.com/#9 - this gets rave reviews, the one time I’ve had it, I thought it was ok, but need to go back again

Yes, I do love japanese curry

I love Japanese curry as well, especially with katsu.

Agree with Curry Hyuga - I’ve only been to the newish one near Mid-Market in SF but haven’t written it up.

And also agree with Nippon Curry in the Marina, which has probably the best katsu curry I’ve had so far in SF. Haven’t written this one up either :stuck_out_tongue: I remember the cutlet having a lot of crunch.
