Karaoke battle dessert bar

Here’s a fun one, I hope -
I have a request for a karaoke themed dessert bar for a party in a few weeks. Little bite sized things, we’re thinking with connections to song titles.

Like I might make lemon bars and call them yellow submarine bars, or do a red disc garnish and call it a raspberry beret (cupcake or whatever).

I’d love to hear more ideas!

Sounds like fun. (Of course I’m a sucker for a mini-dessert bar

Just off the top of my head:
Song Sung Blueberry parfait
Crimson and Clover spice cookies
Dancing in the Dark Chocolate brownies
Mellow Yellow Lemon Bars
Mini Cherry Pie (probably a PITA to execute)
I Want Candy bark

“Cotton Candy Land” – mini cotton candy cones
“Milkshake” – mini milkshakes in shot glasses
“Coconut” – maybe a lime coconut sorbet or lime coconut jello shots
“Strawberry Fields” – mini strawberry shortcake

I think using “Tootsie Roll” would be great but I don’t know if you could do a Tootsie Roll cookie or something?

I have no idea how I would execute these:

Peppermint Twist
American Pie
Honey Honey (an ABBA song)

No Milk Today

I’d have to make my own tootsie rolls, 'cuz that’s how I roll

I’m not sure what the age range will be, all I know is its a staff party for a local company. I think I want more current inspiration, not anything older than the '80’s. Except for the Baeatles, I guess. Do Millennials know music from before they were born? Maybe something with gin and juice…

Brown Sugar
Swlabr (made with cream)
Build Me Up Buttercup

I sometimes wonder if they have ever developed a music of their own.

How about something with M&Ms ?

PS: You probably couldn’t get more au courant than to do something with lemonade.

Well, I did come up with a few newer songs, besides Mikshake but I wasn’t sure you’d want to use them since some of them aren’t referring to food items. :innocent:

“Dessert” by Silento
“Birthday Cake” by Rihanna
“Chocolate Salty Balls” by Chef (from South Park)
“Peaches n Cream” by Snoop Dogg
“Candy Shop” by 50 Cent
“Sugar” by Maroon 5
“Lollipop” by Lil Wayne
“Lemon” by U2
“The Blacker the Berry” by Kendrick Lamar
“Cake by the Ocean” by DNCE (which happens to be my 10yo daughter’s favorite song right now)

Can you tell I listen to a wide variety of music? LOL

Lol, I only found out about the Lil Wayne song after I searched to find out the year of the oldies (1958) version. I guess I’ll have to give it a listen before I make lollipops!

And I do like the cake by the ocean song, but not sure how to translate it into a dessert bite. We will definitely have to label the buffet with clever titles so people can make the connections.

Would the cookies be clover-shaped? Not sure that one is obvious enough. I like the mellow yellow and the brownie idea, brownies could also be Bittersweet Symphony (the Verve) or Bittersweet (Big Head Todd). Cherry tartlets would be sort of a pain but cute.

As I said, those ideas were just from the top of my head. And clearly date me :sob:

Crimson & Clover had at least two iterations. And yes, millennials know our music much better than we know theirs: Blame family gatherings, holidays . . . parents. A niece is a professional musician who loves 80s metal; 2 nephews are amateur musicians who know more about rock of the 70s and 80s than I do. And yet it’s painful to me to sit through their sets.

I know Bennie Goodman, the Dorsey Bros and Glenn Miller thanks to my parents. I have friends who would disown children who didn’t recognize the genius of Springsteen. Apparently all music spans two generations?

I have seen some really cute “cheeseburger” tromp l’oeil French macarons on Instagram. Probably too much work

The Millenials I know have a definite nostalgia for 90s music, sometimes 80s too depending on how old their parents are. I would stick to 80s and later, as you mentioned. Given Prince’s recent death, I’m sure people would enjoy seeing some of his titles brought to life (Raspberry Beret, of course, but there’s also Cream, Purple Rain, Diamonds and Pearls, Kiss, Pink Cashmere and so many more possibilities).

Boogiebaby’s recent list is great. Beyonce just released Lemonade to great acclaim. Also, check out this list of recent titles:

You could do a mini cupcake like this:

or <img src=“//hungryonionstatic.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/original/2X/2/2b732664f2f045f490c38012979fcffc5a69ea17.png” width=“700” height=“644”

It’s a very popular song right now so I’m sure a “Cake By the Ocean” mini cupcake would be a hit. Same with a Lemonade Lemon Cooler bar, since Beyonce just dropped the album a couple days ago.

@boogiebaby Those are cute! I do have some seashell chocolate molds, so definitely a contender.

Blondies!

Ok, so I’m thinking:
blondies with brown sugar icing
gin & juice pate de fruits (does gin go with strawberry?)
handmade tootsie rolls
mini cupcakes with chocolate seashells
raspberry beret something (tartlets or cream puffs)
lemonade/mellow yellow lemon bars
maybe mini cherry pies (tartlets)
milkshakes would be fun but I won’t be there for the event, I’ll suggest it to the other caterer
might not do all of those, but at least 4 or 5

The party was last night, with the client selecting cake by the ocean cupcakes, lemonade bars, and bittersweet symphony brownies. I had already made a test batch of tootsie rolls so I gave them those too. Here are the cupcakes -
