[Kanazawa, Japan] 割烹 魚常 Uotsune

Dinner after a stroll at Higashi Chaya was at 割烹 魚常 Uotsune. Uotsune serves seasonal Kaga cuisine, a type of food made with ingredients typical in the Kanazawa area.

The people running Uotsune were exceedingly hospitable, like a certain Japanese mom who made sure you were welcomed and had a great meal. The food was solid, not super elevated but had a homey feel. I really liked the Kanazawa sake.

We ordered two of the おまかせ 季節の会席 seasonal ‘kaiseki’ and two of the おまかせ 郷土料理(鴨のじぶ煮) Jibuni stewed duck meal.

The meal pacing was a bit of an odd duck (to go with the duck meal!). Before we even settled ourselves and done washing our hands at the bathroom, the parade of food already started arriving at a breakneck speed. Often times two or three courses were right in front of us. So we ended up eating quite quickly.

Pictures of a few courses all on the table at the end:

All good. Just a bit odd. We had a 7:00 reservation. The area around the river was a bit sleepy at night. So perhaps folks in Kanazawa wrap up early?

food of course looks delish, but I particularly noticed the interesting range of dishware.
