[Kanazawa, Japan] Seafood breakfast at the Omicho Market 近江町市場

We stayed right next to the Omicho Market so we definitely took advantage of the convenience to explore the seafood market. It had both seafood stalls, food shops and restaurants. To me, its more authentic than Nishiki in Kyoto, or Kuromon in Osaka, because its not overwhelmed by tourists. Why? because Kanazawa itself isn’t overwhelmed by tourists.

Omicho Market, known as Kanazawa’s Kitchen, is great for those who enjoy seafood. The market is a sprawling indoor complex, with hundred of shops and stalls. Kanazawa itself is on the side of Honshu facing the Sea of Japan, so it has easy access to abundant seafood. Seafood has been an especially important part of Kanazawa’s diet.

What did we end up eating? We got some sushi rice, some rolls, some otoro, and proceeded to have a small DIY sushi/ nigiri fest back in the hotel. It was such a luxury to be able to do that so easily.

One of many sushi restaurants in the market.

Does anyone know why they put giant blocks of ice all over the market in the middle of the aisle?
