Kams Palace is our go-to local Chinese restaurant. It is very popular and very big. If you want to go for dim sum, you should aim to get there for just before midday, otherwise the chance or finding a parking spot and a table becomes very slim. We went this Monday, arriving at quarter to midday - a queue was already forming outside the door. We got in just before 12. It’s a big nice banqueting hall sort of place but the pace is very quick. We had ordered within a few minutes of arrival (we know what we like there) and the dishes started coming out quick and fast.
King prawn ho fun. Good wok hei with bouncy prawns that are perfectly cooked.
More chilli oil please! They gave us one tiny saucer of chilli oil when we requested some. After many follow up requests, we got given more and eventually got through 3 saucers during the meal.
Char siu cheung fun. I thought the wrappers on these were a bit thick and doughy. My son thought they were fine.
It’s a testament to Kams that I didn’t take any further photos apart from one of the receipt - I was too busy stuffing my face. Turnip paste is done really well here. Char siu and rice was a nice mix of lean and fatty slices. I didn’t try the har kau or steamed ribs. Glutinous rice and meat in lotus leaf has suffered from ‘shrinkflation’ but is still reliable.
Those are my own takeaway containers in the background, brought from home to pack up leftovers.
By quarter past midday the entire place was packed to the rafters with customers, mostly of Chinese heritage, enjoying dim sum and people waiting to be seated. We quickly settled the bill and were out in less than an hour of arrival.
