Looks pretty!
Fresh sliced Rutgers from the garden tonight. Delishus.
I planted about 2 dozen flats, mostly from garden centers in Brockton, MA that we picked up on Memorial Day weekend. They grew quickly and then, just as they were beginning to bear fruit, the blight began to hit. Threw some plastic netting over the plants to keep the birds from eating them when they ripened, but something (chipmunks?) was getting to them from below. And some of the heirlooms had very meager yield. Still, we did OK, we were eating tomatoes almost every day throughout August, not much now except for some cherries that are developing on plants that seem to be resisting the blight.
So we hit up McCormack Farms on Tindall Road today in Middletown:
They had at least 30 varieties of heirloom tomatoes:
All grown right there the field is in back of the stand.
They also have silver queen corn and fresh ghost peppers.
That green one towards the bottom right is a funny looking mater!
Yep. It’s a not a Hatch.
Kind of like Not a JR !
Anybody else still getting tomatoes at home?
Now that rainy season has resumed I’m hoping for a slight uptick in production.
Impressive!! Mine stopped yielding about a month ago.
