Jay Rayner with good things to say about (some) UK chain food

(PS: He has good things to say about Pizza Express, our major pizza chain. Like him, I go back with them to when they only had a handful of branches. And I remember us being in one, I think in Kingston on Thames, and seeing Brian May and family. )

Nando’s is awesome. They’re based in South Africa, and it’s a real shame they haven’t made inroads in the US other than the Baltimore/Washington area.

The Pizza Express pizzas for sale in supermarkets are pretty good, too.

Hey June. Havent heard from you in ages. How are things?

In the UK, Nando’s is very much a “young peoples place”. I’ve not been but intended to when we were in South Africa last year. However, the day when we were near a Nando’s sort of ran away with us and we never got there.

I was pleasantly surprised by Wagamama in Didsbury this time. I had the steak bulgogi bowl with rice instead of noodles. Now, it bore no resemblance to bulgogi but the steak was perfectly cooked and the dish was flavorful. I would definitely order it again. Pizza Hut? There’s a reason why I haven’t eaten there in decades
