Japan’s historic Tsukiji fish market catches fire

Oh no, it is one of my favourite market.

The fire broke out around Inoue 井上, the ramen shop profiled in Jiros Dream of Sushi.

The area around the ramen shop suffered damage. Not very clear to me whether the ramen shop itself is burned.

The inner market, where the fish vendors are, is not affected.

A Yelper from LA suggested that the shop was destroyed by fire.

Exact. From the Reuters’ reportage:

Among the places destroyed was a ramen noodle shop extremely popular with foreign tourists, media said.

“The second floor’s a total loss, and everything on the first floor was completely soaked,” one shop owner told NHK public broadcaster.

Although isn’t it closing and moving soon to make way for the 2020 Olympics…?

Some pictures of the scene:

A fire outside Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji fish market that destroyed several buildings including a popular ramen restaurant was extinguished on Aug. 4, more than 15 hours after it started.
