We also find out that the timpano in Big Night is an old Tucci family recipe.
I listened to that book and Ina’s book the week after the election and it was a soothing respite from the horror of it all. Tucci’s memoir Taste was excellent and yeah, this one got a bit boring but sometimes I like boring. I just got through 60% of the Doris Kearns Goodwin An Unfinished Love Story and the library took it back and now I have to wait for another few months to finish it. It’s been mainly about the 60’s and since I’m oldish I do remember how all that worked out (some very good stuff and some very bad stuff) but it’s enjoyable. Started reading Al Pacino memoir which should be interesting.
I’ve ordered Taste from the library.
I made the cod alla Livornese
There is a woman a few streets over that has a “Free Library” at the end of her driveway. It looks like a little house – very cute. There is a sign “Give a book – take a book”, so I left “The Mistake I made” book that I finished and took “The Rosie Project” by Graeme Simsion.
I’m having problems getting into it, but I’ll give a few more chapters before I bail and donate it back to the “Free Library”
As a side note – what a great concept (Free Library)!! There is no deadline to get the book back like a regular library and if you want to keep the book and re-read it at a later date – no problem.
Nice find! We have a few of those in our neighborhood too! I passed by one today, and wondered if I could get some of my books in there!
I imagine you could put a couple in there.
When Sunshine & I have too many books, there is a Veterans charity that picks up in my neighborhood (at the end of my driveway) every 6-8 weeks. When the accumulation of too many books reaches a point, we box them up and donate them to that charity. They sell them off and the money helps the Veterans.
I put up a Little Free Library inn front of our garage a few years ago. It’s been fun to have!
Thank You for putting that in.
Both Sunshine and I enjoy the one a few streets over. Sunshine is an avid reader. When she finishes a book, we’ll take a casual walk a few streets over, leave the book she just finished and take a new one.
I’m a slower reader, but its nice to have a “new to you” book on your nightstand.
Excellent - thanks!
I just finished Stanley Tucci’s Taste, and it’s very good, much better than What I Ate in One Year.
I just finished Babel and am on to My Brilliant Friend. Similar themes/structure to the other novel I read by this author.
Just finished Guide Me Home by Attica Locke. It’s the third and final chapter in the Darren Mathews story. Wistful but satisfying.
I read those too! I am looking forward to her next book.
I just started this “historical fiction” suggested by my brother.
41 hours of listening!
A very funny David Sedaris short story in the Sept 9 NYer issue, which reminded me that I have yet to finish the fable book on my PIC’s Kindle. It just didn’t appeal to me as much as his other books. And I am eyeing his latest.
I love him, have read everything but missed the New Yorker article because there’s an issue with my I Pad and Flipster. What’s the newest book? One part of Calypso makes me laugh hysterically.
I’ve been lucky to have seen him 3 times now, each in our small town. He is incredibly gracious and, of course, outrageously funny.
The ‘new’ book: https://www.davidsedarisbooks.com/#:~:text=In%20Happy-Go-Lucky%2C,connection%20that%20drive%20us%20all.
Naked played a not insignificant role in bringing my PIC and me together
At his reading in 2017 we were lucky to chat with him after his show, as he does, and he signed it for us
Tell us the story.
Have you read Calypso? Something he found picking up litter in the town in England where he lives part of the year. That town put his name on a new garbage truck.
Sounds like a good time! For a moment I thought you meant the Pope.
Thank you, I enjoyed reading that.
I already read Happy-Go-Lucky. I read both his Diaries books … I thought he was grasping, trying to just publish more books. Nope, they were great, I giggled all the way through.
