The meal was wonderful. I would be happy to go again.
I went to Pio Monte della Misericordia too. Definitely a different feel. The sculpture in Sansevero is maybe the most impressive I’ve ever seen.

Today is my last day in Naples. Taking it easy. Had a nice long morning stroll, then stopped for that drink. Just finished some sort of delicious potato croquet (no meat, fried in grapeseed, like chunky mashed potatoes breaded and fried).
Wow, those tomatoes don’t look very ripe — were they? I realize it’s basically November, but I’m also surprised they’d have a summer fruit on the menu this late in the game.
Love the fried anchovies!
Beautiful photos of food, landscape, ocean, sculpture, street sightings! I was trained as an art historian decades ago and never heard of the Sansevero sculptures until now. I did specialize in 18th - 19th centuries and focused on Spain and Goya for my research, but I am stunned to discover Sansevero for the first time! Thank you!
I want that drink, too! Is it Caffè Affogato?
Nice — order a drink and lunch is taken care of!
they sorta like the half ripe crisp tomatoes for salad in italy
Oy. I’m glad I’ve not encountered this in a Caprese so far, or with bruschetta.
Haven’t you ever had some green on tomatoes in an italian mixed salad? They like the crispy tart quality, and I do to, vs a limp ripe slice. Bruschetta, I dont think so either.
I mean… I may have, but I wouldn’t have liked it enough to be memorable. I also think there is a perfect medium between unripe & crisp, and limp ripe.
I’ve also been lucky enough to only have had wonderfully ripe, red, juicy, flavorful tomatoes on the bruschetta I’ve been served.
yes essential for that. I grew up growing tomatoes and loved to pick the full ripe ones and eat them sitting on the grass in the sun. they are special with warm bread and olive oil. and similar applications.
It certainly still feels like summer here, but I agree those tomatoes did not look promising. They tasted better than they looked, but I am sure in season they’d be better.
The anchovies were wonderful and crispy.
Not sure. I sent the picture to LLD who started researching but his guess is con panna. He also sent this article:
The bruschetta has been so good - I want to eat it every day.
Ha, remember Lulu saying, “bruschetta again?” when Polpo was COTM?
I’ve had a great trip, and I’m ready to go home. Not ready for the stress of the next 5 days, but will have to deal with it. My plan to go sober will have to wait until after the election. Anyway, dinner at Osteria da Carmela last night was great - avoid those zucchini flowers and you’ll love it. Started with mushroom risotto, which was perfect.
Then got a simple salad and tuna with mint and lemon. The tuna was thin but still very tender. Delicious.
Finished with the cassata cake and a contented sigh.
I had forgotten that!!! But yes, now that you mention it I do! Ha ha. Good thing she’s not here!
I’ll finish up with photos from the day. Italians seem to be very big on Halloween. Look at that beautiful goblin! And yet another mural of Maradona.
Also thanks for tagging along. I love traveling alone, but it has been fun to have all of you to chat with.
Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!
