Sun Yuan Foong in Ipoh Old Town is perhaps the oldest “white coffee” purveyor in Ipoh - preceding its more illustrious neighbours: Sin Yoon Loong next door, and the very successful Nam Heong (which franchises out itself as “Old Town White Coffee” throughout Malaysia and the region) across the road.
Known for its white coffee, Hainanese toasts and Hakka noodles, Sun Yuan Foong also has a stall upfront which offers one of the best “chee cheong fun” in town.
Ipoh-style “chee cheong fun” has a savoury-meaty brown beansauce, different from KL’s sweetish brown beansauce. Ipoh-style “chee cheong fun” also comes with pickled green chillis which its KL counterpart doesn’t have.
For comparison’s sake, this is a KL-style “chee cheong fun” from Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.
