Il Giardino, Aquebogue NOFO
Amazing!!! They were doing everything that a new restaurant should do. The managers were roaming the dining room sincerely asking how everything was going.
Garlic knots, bruschetta and Italian eggplant with tomatoes were brought to the table with some excellent bread.
Nice wine list too.
Some of the old staff of Petulant Wino were working. It is so nice to have experienced servers in a new restaurant and not have to endure the “kinks” of a new endeavor.
We all shared a tasty gorgonzola salad. The dressing deserved to be soaked up with bread.
Eggplant Parm was out of this world. Individual portions, not cut out of a large tray so it tasted fresh and crispy at the edges.
Shrimp Fra Diavolo was cooked to perfection with the right amount of zing. Once again, not an ounce of sauce was left in the plate. It had to be soaked up with bread.
Clams in white sauce with linguine was very fresh tasting. Just the right amount of garlic and tender clams.
Large portions that we had leftovers and were too stuffed to have dessert. Next time we’ll pace ourselves.
All in all Il Giardino seems to be a good fit for that odd ball location. They have tables set up in the rear garden for Al Fresco dining when weather permits.
My only suggestion is that they need an on line reservation system. They open at 4PM and don’t answer the phones until then. Not great for planning a dinner for the same evening.
Check it out before the Summer rush.
