Ice cream, gelato, granita, frozen desserts- your favourite flavours

I find UK ice cream very good, every scoop I’ve tried.

The two I buy at the store for the house: Breyers mint chocolate chip and B&J peanut butter cup.

The two I’ve most enjoyed out there in the world and have a really hard time finding similar things - a chocolate orange flavor and a chocolate raspberry truffle flavor. I adore chocolate combined with fruit. All the better if it is dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is not really chocolate in my book.

Do you happen to have any Ellenos yogurt in your local nicer groceries or perhaps a local retailer? They have a passionfruit greek yogurt that is incredible.

Same. Every other froyo flavor is just sweet. Original is sweet and tart, which makes it the best.

Speaking of Italy, Rick Steves told us to hit up a cafe near the Pantheon that did an espresso granita with nonsweetened whipped cream. It was absolutely amazing. I would love to replicate it at home sometime.

Now if they would only revive Top Chef Just Desserts. Yigit was one of my favorites.

Yeah. There was a frozen yogurt place I really like, but I think they went out of business during COVID-19. Its name is: Yogorino
YOGORINO - CLOSED - 45 Photos & 48 Reviews - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt - 3535 US Hwy 1, Princeton, NJ - Phone Number - Menu - Yelp
It is the first yogurt place I have had where they are unapologically keeping the tartness. It wasn’t even sweet without adding topping on its. Vast majority of the other places I have tried do something to remove the tartness.
It is a shame that it has closed. I also no longer live in New Jersey, but it is a shame still.

Bummer! We go to Menchie’s which is a chain with some decent national coverage. They have it, and I believe in SoCal Yogurtland locations also had an original tart. But it’s been a while and I may be getting mixed up.

You might try the Talenti black raspberry choc chip… while the ice cream is not chocolate, the finely flaked (and plentiful) dark choc chips are a yummy combination with the raspberry ice cream.

I’ve had it and it’s ok. The one in my dreams though is from LA. Abbott Kinney neighborhood, Rose St. Robin Rose Ice Cream parlor. Dark chocolate ice cream with a raspberry coulis swirl and good size chunks of dark choc/rasp truffles throughout. That parlor, and it’s ice cream, went defunct at least 20 yrs ago.

Is that the one in Venice? If so, man they have been there a long time!

Thanks. I did not know about this place. I will keep an eye out.

Yes, Venice. But they closed while I lived in LA, and we moved out of LA in 2006.

They’ve a website with all their locations. https://www.menchies.com/all-locations

Eataly (Toronto) has a crema di caffe which is like a sweet creamy espresso granita. A little too sweet for me.emphasized text

Never been. I think the one in Rome has the granita sweetened but the cream unsweetened. So with their proportions, you get it a little melty and mix it and it’s heaven.

I have 3 pints of strawberry tarragon sorbet because I know the place would stop selling it for the season. Another gelato place makes a great passionfruit guava that the Wholefoods here carry. Another does a good pineapple sorbet and a good dark chocolate sorbet.

How could I forget? Dreyer’s (Edy’s, east of the Mississipi?) made the best Toasted Almond ice cream BITD. There was a macadamia flavored one I had in Hawaii a few years back; close, but not the memory from the past.
