“ IBUSHI, Commerce Gate, Thornhill “ - Another near perfect, super value-for-money, sushi Omakase dining experience!







At an amazing price point of only $135. This truly hidden neighbourhood gem, IMHO, still, without doubt, offers the best quality/value ratio Sushi Omakase in the GTA!

Starting off the mulit-cousrse trust-the-chef tasting menu were 4 refined, artfully crafted and super delectable Otsumamis. A progression of 10 nigiri sushi plus a hand-roll then follows. The parade featured imported Neta ingredients mostly sourced from Japanese waters. Some unique specimens ( see menu posted ) were offered….no ordinary, run-of-the mill products used here!! The utterly satisfactory and filling sushi course ended with a small and delightful bowl of umami packed soba noodle soup with duck side condiments and a delicious and refreshing home made organic ice cream.

Quite a few stand-outs deserve special mention. But IMO, the creme-de-la-creme definitely belongs to the Otsumami duo of Sweet Shao-Xing wine marinated Botan Ebi and the Crispy scale Tile fish……a product using sizzling oil to crisp-up the delicate scale. This rendition is reminiscent of a similar dish from the now closed Michelin star Frilu or a similar dish currently featured at Pearl Morissette!

As usual, the nigiri was top notch with the shari a touch sweeter than my previous visits, the result of the chef using two types of vinegars……perfectly balanced for my palate! O-Toro was melt in the mouth creamy as usual and the Wagyu A5 topped with Hokkaido Uni, an unforgettably tasty one-biter. An assortment of seldomly encountered and interesting seafood and fish options with varying textural feel rounded off the rest of the Neta offerings……for the price, an impressive list by GTA standard!

BTW, my optional add-ons of BC Mirugai and ‘ Hokkaido Hokkigai were both superb!!..Crisp, crunchy, chewy and umami sweet!! Sadly, they sold out my beloved Akagai to the two parties that pre-empted us! Better luck next time!

Another great and memorable meal served by a team of super-friendly, attentive and smiling lady wait-staff augmented by a cordial and communicative Chef Takai.
