How do you celebrate your birthday? Favourite restaurant, favourite foods? Takeout?

Happy birthday @Phoenikia ! :birthday::tada::champagne:

No plans yet for my birthday (still a while).

Varies from year to year for me, except for one constant……to my wife’s dismay, I prefer to make my own favorite cake, which is a fig/cognac/hazelnut/chocolate cake.

Thank you!

That sounds like a nice cake!

I think I’m going to do a 2 part birthday this year.

Take-out To Be Determined, possibly from a nice restaurant with a few Thai dishes, and then Lobster Rolls a week later.

My birthday was last month, and my super sweet SO took me to a lovely steakhouse for dinner. The next night, we had a delicious chocolate cake at our local pub with a bunch of friends (and my mom!)
I really enjoy a nice meal and time with friends and family on my birthday. And cake. There must be cake :slight_smile:

I was just talking about birthday celebrations with a friend. Her mom doesn’t like being the subject of any fuss at all, and would rather be working (she’s a server at a couple of Chinese restaurants in town). That plus the fact that she’s apparently a pretty good cook in her own right means that she would prefer to eat something she’s cooked at home - even after working a full dinner shift - rather than go out to celebrate. I suggested that my friend conspire with her mom’s boss to allow the family to ‘kidnap’ her from work and take her to a local park for a picnic dinner.

my mother made a version of that (skipped the hard caramel topping) for more family birthdays than i can remember. loved it!

as for my birthday, always start with a mani-pedi. this year, my birthday fell on a wednesday, so friends took me ot for dinner on friday. next month, one of those friends turns 80, and a small group will celebrate at la bodega in watertown, ma.

You’ll have to keep me posted on your bday plans! Are you a Taurus or a Gemini?

:musical_note:Birthdays should be celebrated as many times as one wishes!:tada:

Probably dinner in Napa. When I was little, there was a parade (for Memorial Day, but I like to think it was for me).

Gemini.

Happy birthday!

I like the idea of Birthday Week or Birthday Month – extend the celebration!

Thank you!

It’s not quite here yet, but I’ve started celebrating. :joy:

I started today with cheese bread toast. I can go through a loaf of cheese bread in 36 hours so I only buy it once or twice a year.

Thank you!

I had to look that up and found this, but the discussion focuses on rolls. Is yours similar? Is there tapioca starch?

ETA Maybe more like this

One more;
Here’s a Filipino one!

It’s basically white bread with cheddar folded in.

This recipe is closer to my ideal. Hahaha

I’m disappointed by the recipe posted by Robin Hood (a Canadian brand) flour site and the Milk board site.

Interestingly, small town grocery store bakeries often make a better version of cheese bread than fancier bakeries.

There’s also the Ontario style Cheese Stick and Ontario -style Cheese Bun. Also made well by small-town grocery store bakeries. LOL

I like the Brazilian Pao, too, but that’s a different fix.
