I’ve bought some good babkas at Breads Bakery and Zabar’s in NYC. Unfortunately, one person in my household doesn’t like it, so I’ve stopped buying babka, and won’t bother making one since it won’t be appreciated. We were given a homemade babka at Xmas this year, and about half was eaten, then it sat in the fridge for 2 weeks before I cleaned out the fridge.
The Chocolate-dipped Easter Bread (chocolate tsoureki) is already a thing in its own right.
The famous one is made at Terkenlis in Thessaloniki, and Greek bakeries in Canada also make it.
When we were in third grade, the recorder was introduced to us as a musical instrument. The tune we had to play for the spring concert was ‘Hot Cross Buns’. There were many of us who didn’t know what a Hot Cross Bun was. One of the moms brought a pan of homemade ones to our class for after the concert. We played well. I didn’t care for the flavor of he bun although the icing was okay.
