How long would that jar last you?
Schweeeet!
Lovely!
Not sure. Too long if I was eating it by myself, but I’m giving some away in a holiday gift basket.
Candied orange/raisin is the flavor of Trader Joe’s pannetone, which I love. I’ve never splurged for a more expensive one. I wonder how it measures up. Have you ever tried the TJ version?
I haven’t, no, but I’ve eaten a bunch of other mass-produced pannetones. The Roy product is in a different stratosphere. If you love the TJ’s, I say, rock on!
Iv2e been splurging on Loison and Vergani panettones, in the $25 US-$40 USD range, and they are so much tastier than the $7-$20 panettones.
I haven’t tried Roy’s or Trader Joe’s.
I’d love if anyone on the board has actually tried the TJs and the fancy ones and could do a head to head comparison. I don’t have a ton of experience with panettone but I think TJs does a really good job with it.
ALRIGHT. Two accomplishments tonight!
- Baked off some lacy ricotta cookies and froze the rest of the dough.
- Made and chilled the dough for the Epicurious ginger spice.
Next up:
Dough for fruity meltaways and candied ginger shortbread.
It’s funny… almost every year, a subconscious theme arises from my cookie choices. I never plan it, it just happens, but it happens fairly reliably. This year, it’s ginger.
Weird.
I assume you tasted the cookies; how did you like them?
I reuse parchment until it is so brown that it crumbles when touched, despite the fact that maybe 20 years ago, I bought enough to last me if I reach age 100! Something like $30 for hundreds of 18x36" sheets…
Do you have a recipe for the fruity meltaways?
I would try TJ’s if I could, but their panettone isn’t available in Canada.
I saw Roy’s for the first time in Canada this past week. I also saw one place with Bonci panettone- which I’m sure would be amazing.
I’ve been buying my fancy panettone at Eataly.
Good to know it can be reused! I didn’t know that!
I do the same. I just brush off the crumbs or blot any butter, and reuse.
I posted a link to the recipe a day ago; if you “Control-F” and search for “fruity,” you will see it.
Now that you mention that, our Trader Joes is flooded with Canadians every weekend, as we are only 30 miles south of the border. How close are you to the border, and do you ever cross in order to get cheaper food, milk, gas, etc.
So much talk of these ricotta cookies! They looked great and I bookmarked the recipe a couple of weeks ago, but I haven’t gotten to them. Now I’m in get rid of stuff rather than make new stuff mode as we are travelling in 2 days. On the ginger front, my FIL was over yesterday for a bday celebration and he was saying how he planned to bake some pumpkin ginger scones on Friday because that’s when his ginger delivery was happening. I felt bad because he is new to the area and bought a lb of crystallized ginger and he is a household of 1. Our Trader Joes which is only 30 min drive from him always has it, and it’s a 6oz bag I think. Anyway, ginger ginger.
