(Some of) you asked for it, so here it is… let’s lunch together at Haldi Chowk in Middletown on Saturday, Feb. 28th at 1pm. I’ve created this separate thread for planning purposes only. This is open to all and we each pay our own way (cash preferred). Also note that the restaurant is BYO.
If you haven’t read my recent post, there is a new chef/owner there and I was impressed by his approach to Indian food (healthier) and by the presentation of each dish. The decor? Meh. But as long as the food’s good, let’s go together!
PLEASE RSVP BELOW if you’re planning to attend and tell me how many people (your friends/family don’t have to be on Hungry Onion). For those who haven’t attended a HOdown in the past, it’s a great way to meet irl (as the kids say) and try new spots! Don’t be shy - we’re a welcoming group.
For some reason I can’t edit my original post, but if you have any allergies, ate vegetarian or gluten-free, please let me know so I can pass that on to the chef (he asked).
I want to be in but this “healthy approach” thing is making me hesitant. Would you mind letting me know what the approach is? Sorry if this is too demanding lol. I’ll probably come either way because I love seeing all of your beautiful faces
Glad you can make it! And yes, that strip has Trader Joe’s on the northern end but the restaurant is close to Petco which is closer to the middle of the stores.
And here’s the Malaysian Curried Fish recipe that was requested: Throw 1 small onion (chunked), 2 cloves garlic, 4 dried chiles, 1/2 Tbsp dry coconut milk, 1/4 cup water, 1 tsp turmeric, 1 Tbsp coriander, 1 Tbsp cumin, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp ground peppercorns, 4 Tbsp lemon juice, 2 Tbsp almonds, and 3 Tbsp vinegar in a blender. Blend until smooth and mixed. Pour over a pound of codfish in a casserole dish, cover, and bake at 350F for 25 minutes.
