P2 and I booked a room here for a spontaneous weekend away, noting that reviews enthusiastically described the German foods served at the lodge restaurant. The menu features schnitzel, and I love a cutlet, so dinner plans were made.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant for a warm, friendly, delicious meal.
We ate the smoked salmon on potato pancake app, Vienna style schnitzel, Ingrid’s mom’s goulash, and apple strudel.
Smoked salmon on a potato pancake was good, well balanced with a less salty slightly eggy potato pancake and salty smoked salmon on top. I was not a fan of the honey-dill-mustard dressing, but I have an aversion to some sweet flavors. 3.5/5.
Vienna style schnitzel with capers, lemon, and anchovies was excellent. I heard them pounding the schnitzel while we were enjoying our appetizer and it was as tender as it sounded like it would be. Crispy, savory, and an excellent combination. 4.5/5, but I can’t quite say why.
Goulash was more tomato-y than I’m used to in a great way. Smokey flavor from the paprika and well cooked onions brought the whole dish together. I could eat many bowls of this were my stomach not finite in size. 4.5/5.
Sides of spaetzel and sauerkraut were very good, though the spaetzel was a little undersalted for me. 4-4.5/5.
Apple strudel was also excellent, slightly salty pastry offset the sweet apple-cinnamon-raisin filling. 5/5.
