Hestia, Paris 5

Hestia opened about six months ago. It is located on the Left Bank, just 250 meters from Notre Dame. It intends to be a restaurant gastronomique, and I recently had a nice meal there, as reported here.

Onzieme,
Thank you for your usual thorough and informative review. In 1970, My husband and I traveled to Paris form the Bronx clutching our copy of Europe on $5.00 a day.
Our routing was Icelandic Airlines into Luxembourg with a short stop in Reykjavik. The journey from Luxembourg to Paris was via bus.
We stayed in the Hotel du Mont Blanc and ate many practically inedible but cheap meals on the Rue du la Huchette. My husband, a Jazz buff immediately fell into the Caveau de la Huchette. The trip started our love affair with Paris and we returned many times eventually taking our children and grandchildren with us.
My husband of 57 years died suddenly and unexpectedly in his sleep on December 17th. I wish he was here to share your comments on Rue du la Huchette. They certainly brought a smile to my face. I am returning to Paris in March and will certainly seek out Hestia. Thanks for the memories.

@Tucsonbabe,

Thank you for your kind note. I’m so sorry about the death of your husband. After 57 years and so suddenly, it had to be a traumatic change.

I am a jazz fan, too, and took note that Le Caveau de la Huchette is almost directly across the street from Hestia.

My first time in Paris was the year after yours and I, too, used Frommer, although by then it had become Europe on 5 and 10 Dollars a Day. I stayed on the Rue St-Honoré at the Hôtel du Petit Louvre (no longer exists) for 13 francs/$3.25 a night – it was rustic, but still better than what Hemingway had half a century before that.

Enjoy your stay in Paris in March!

Dear Barbara,
I am so sorry to hear about your husband. But I am glad to hear that you are returning to Paris in March to revisit the many places that have happy memories for you. It’s a solace to think that Paris will always be here for us, if we may not always be here for her.
Carole

Thank you both. My husband’s ashes will be scattered in many of our favorite places.

Also offering condolences. A rough time no doubt for you for sure, but I am also moved by your love for Paris. I share that.
