To be clear, when I mentioned “trepidations” above, I was referring to the impact of the device as it is adopted by seemingly all social media, not making the more micro case that we should abandon it here. Your example is one illustration, and if you think about it, there are numerous hypotheticals where someone might choose to stifle dissent or elaboration for fear of not being liked enough, etc.
This is all getting outside the scope of the Site. So, I’ll stop and wait on the dissertations that will emerge in academia half a generation from now.
