We’re headed to Bordeaux and environs later on this year, and I welcome recommendations. To give you an idea of budget, hopes and expectations, I rely s good bit on Michelin’s Bib Gourmand selections, with which I’ve had good luck.
The plan is to stay in Bordeaux for a few days and rent a car for a day or two for forays, adn then wander in the Gironde a bit. Then to Paris for a few days.

I’m in Bordeaux overnight on a cruise in a few weeks. We plan to have dinner in the city.
We’ll be looking for somewhere along the lines of a traditional bistro/brasserie. More research to be done to finalise things but my “long list” is La Tupina, Brasserie Bordelaise, Chez Dupont (??), Brasserie Maillard, Bouchon Bordelaise, Le Noailles. All of which are in the city’s central area (so handy for our ship).
It’s been 6 years, so who knows how stale this information is, but I had a great meal in Le Bouchon Bordelaise. There was another spot where I sat at a counter and watched them cook that was also very good but I can’t remember the name. Pretty much everywhere had great food though.
And I found the name of the other place I really liked - Au Bistrot. I can’t find a website for them, but I loved being able to sit at the bar and watch them cook, and the food was very good.

Our front-runner is now Bouchon Bordelaise (thanks Kari). It’s a no choice tasting menu, published each week. So, we have a back-up in case we don’t like the look of it - La Noailles. I don’t approve of double booking, even when it’s me doing it - but I’ll given them as much notice of cancellation as possible. Needs must, on this occasion.
In Bordeaux, La Brasserie Bordelaise and Le Petit Commerce are classics.
Outside of Bordeaux, Le Lion d’Or (in Arcins, Médoc) is not to be missed, if you can go there.
La Tupina is another classic, maybe not so brilliant as it used to be, but still quite good (tested again in March).
@johntannerbbq - since you will only be in Bordeaux for a few days, this may not interest you, but when we were there for two weeks, I was looking for something a bit different than standard Bordelaise fair and found Echo (https://eccbordeaux.wixsite.com/echocaveamanger) and ended up eating there a few times it was so good.
