Hanoi 2025 [Vietnam]

On this trip we discovered that happy hour at the Angelina bar in the Hanoi Metropole is one of the best deals in town - great value for money to enjoy drinks in an ultra luxe setting at one of the world’s grand old hotels.

Some 2004 vintage Dom Perignon in its own securely locked niche in the wall of wine.

Happy hour is from 4-7pm and is 2 for 1 on drinks. If ordering cocktails you can mix and match. But if ordering other drinks you need to have 2 of the same. I had the Lady Mandarine and Cherry Sour cocktails. Both were excellent :ok_hand:t3:

Free nibbles with the drinks: olives, spiced cashews and a plate of canapes (fried chicken skewers, beef tartare toasts and cheese tartlets). Yum!

I think this is my idea of heaven!

Wow, what an absolutely gorgeous setting!! And the drinks and snacks look great too. Make mine a Cyclo Crush, although the Cherry Sour looks good too.

My colleague had the Cyclo Crush. I’ve tried retrieving it from the background of a photo:

I have never seen these outside my mom’s house!
Her family made banana bhajiyas / pakodas at the same time as potato / onion / chillies / other veg :joy:

Please don’t feel attacked! My sister and I fondly remember spending a weekend in Paris circa 2005 when Hips Don’t Lie was playing incessantly. I actually took a little video clip in this Hanoi bar while the song was playing, sent it to my sister with the message: why do you think I’m remembering you now? And she was like “Paris! Hips Don’t Lie!”

I just needed a different setting for the song.

I’ve been to Vietnam 5 different times…but never made it to Hanoi.
It’s on my bucket list.

I went to Costa Rica in December of 1993, every bar played the same lively dance tune every 6th or 7th tune for all 4 weeks I was there. Loved that song. I have never heard it since I left but if I heard it today it would take me straight back to Manuel Antonio Parque and shots of Ron Centenario on the beach. I love how songs can take you back in time.

Which song was it?

In my most impressionable teen years, Red Red Wine was a yuuge hit, and played all over Yurp. Fond memories of jamming out to it on an island just off the coast of Koloçep in the 80s.

I never got the name. I think it was by a Costa Rican artist/group.
I tried to find it on the primitive internet of 1994 when i returned to the States, but failed.

Was it this?

This was popular around that time, IIRC.

I can’t hear it right now, i am having lunch at la Bouganvilla in Malaga. The place is jamming! I will listen to it as soon as i get to a quieter spot.

Oh, wow. Yeah, another one that was coming out of my ears eventually. But at least the singer doesn’t sound like a screaming goat :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
