Hands Off My Food!, The Food Chain - BBC World Service

Quite an interesting BBC program about cultural appropriation in food. Some of the contributors have been featured in previous posts on the subject.

I tend to fall asleep listening to podcasts so may have missed a few details, but did the energy drink company really claim that it’s OK to use Maori words and images because nobody knows who they are? Ouch!

I think they did.

The bit that puzzles me about that issue is the All Blacks have always used the Haka at the start of their matches, and whilst they are Kiwis, and so its theirs to use as they wish, it does seem to cross the commercial/sacred line…after all I am certain many people only associate it with rugby.
