HAPPY Halloween

Apparently we have a spider issue on our side porch. Happy Halloween.

Someone really wants to eat candy and greet the trick-or-treaters.

Leaving this here: We had fewer than 20 kids come by for trick or treat, but they were so joyful at seeing our (admittedly minimal) Halloween decor and spotting the dog in her silly costume. (We do keep our very friendly pup back from the kids in case anyone’s afraid or allergic.) Their parents were awesome too.

Totally worth it to see the happiness!

We had ZERO trick or treaters (our neighborhood does a walk around trick or treat event on the Sunday before Halloween). So I went down to Lee Street which is closed down for an 8 block long Halloween blowout. The 700 block does an annual theme and most of the residents participate. This year it was Octoberfest - so much fun.

We’re on the 6th floor of an apt building, so we didn’t get any trick or treaters, either. Bummer!

We did see a few lil munchkins dressed up and ready to go in our hood when we were on our way to the hockey game.

Even back home, I feel like we have fewer and fewer each year. Le sigh.

I left a bucket and watched from a darkened window. I totally get what the digs are feeling with the frequent goings on .

We didn’t get what we used to 10 years ago but we got some.

Every time I came out to replenish the bucket (or grab a Snickers), I was “busted” by trick or treaters. I was home; :open_mouth:

I have to give a shout out to our local kids. All made me proud of humans!

Here too. We had stickers in addition to candy at my friend’s place and practically every kid, from 2 to teens, were thrilled to get a sticker and very gracious about thanking us, etc.

There was one year when we had a house that we couldn’t be home Halloween evening. We came home to a cracked raw egg in our mailbox. It leaked onto our mail and out/down onto the concrete. I had a hell of a time cleaning it up!

I always thought that even the “trick” part was supposed to be fun; it wasn’t for me!

Ugh. Although I can’t imaging having to deal with a TP’d house would be any fun, either.

There was a post in my local pages showing a couple of strands of tp in a tree and a single streamer across a car.

The poster was chiding parents…for heaven’s sake teach your kids to do it right, not this half-arsed effort!

Yeah, in my day we really knew how to TP a house.

Anyone give or see spuds handed out? It’s mentioned in several articles.

No, but I would be totally into spuds. We gave out stickers and pokeman cards. Kids LOVED them.

My wife just told me a neighbor actually baked potatoes and gave them out wrapped and buttered and kids loved it. She also gave out candy. But given the decades of unwrapped candy fears and no homemade treats, I was surprised.

When I was a kid soaping car windows was the big mischief night activity. Parents gave us the soap! Parents handed out candied apples, balls of chewy popcorn and bags of cookies. All homemade. Getting a big Hershey bar was the unusual treat.

Times are changing back?
