Hal and Al's BBQ in Ballston?

Has anyone heard of Hal and Al’s BBQ, downstairs at Ballston Quarter? Limited menu of brisket, beef rib, and poultry because… it is Halal and no pork. I did not try it, but hoping others might be interested in ordering a few items together. Also, of note, they are open to midnight on Friday and Saturdays.

According to the guy there, they smoke using only maple and all done in this modern-looking smoker.

They also offer a smoked apple pie. I also noticed they serve their brisket over Belgian waffle. They call it a fatwaffle. No kidding.

I’ve heard of it and would like to go. I was told they cook with gas, but their web site says that they use “the same fire our forefather use” which is ambiguous – and that they use hickory. (The name is clever - the meat is halal as you probably guessed from the fatwaffle, which you probably don’t want to order if you’re dining with Salmon Rushdie, but otherwise … .

FWIW, the place smells like wood, and probably hickory. I live in Arlington so it’s pretty easy for me to get to. I will send out an email.
