Haidilao Hot Pot is a hot pot chain originating from Mainland China, many outposts offshore (including USA). Known for their exceptional service, as well as extraordinary add-ons that keep customers happy during their inevitable wait for a table.
We went with two broths. A rich Tonkotsu Bone broth with slivered Pork Stomach and herbs. Tom Yum broth surprised with two large shrimp that ate very well, shrimpy and meaty.
Well stocked condiment stations throughout the restaurant, robust selection with English subtitles.
Went with the basics to start: Lamb (Mutton) and Beef. Shanghai Bok Choy, Da Bien Lo Veggie and Romaine Lettuce. Fu Jook (dried Tofu Skin) and Yuba Skin Roll.
Help yourself to Watermelon Slices. Oranges. Congee (Pey Dan Siou Yuk). Spicy Schezuan Glass Noodles. Spicy Peanuts.
As we were ready to ask for our check and waddle out… Server offered (insisted!!) we have the Fruit plate.
Too full to get my own Soft Serve, so she brought me one. With a small Dou Fa (Tofu Pudding).
We’ve walked by more than a few Haidilao in the PRC, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc… The hour(s) long queues had always been a deterrent, and frankly, the prices are a bit more than we wish to spend for what should be an inexpensive humble meal.
The service lived up to its stellar reputation. Every staff member, from the hostess to the person refilling the condiment stations, were quick to smile and and offered to satisfy every whim and need.
My wife refers to this store as the manicure hot pot place. Why?
In addition to a play area for the kids, Haidilao offers FREE manicures while you wait for your table!!! We didn’t have to wait, so I couldn’t avail myself of this complimentary service, perhaps next time.
