So the same company that makes baked beans now cans Butter Chicken chickpeas? I think we’ve found their specialty. (sounds horn)

Where did Sophia’s sense of humour go?

Metro is selling this Dolce + Gabbana pasta at the very humble, non-renovated old school location in Cherry Hill Plaza, in London.
I bought the shells.
$3.99 for 500 g.
My local has 4 Di Martino pastas. Are they worth the money?
I have not tried it yet. I can’t usually tell the difference between one $2.79 Italian pasta and another $3.99 Italian pasta. I have bought Rummo which seems to be the rage at gourmet shops but I can’t tell the difference between Rummo and less popular Italian brands.
I can tell the difference between Catelli pasta and imported Italian pasta.
We mostly eat shorter pasta such as shells, macaroni, gemelli, and orzo. I will report back.
Its all in the way they cook up. Molisana which I expected to be good was not. Primo that I thought wouldn’t be good is. Barilla and De Cecco are fine, but not so much better that I feel less than stupid buying them.

I have been uniformly unimpressed with Loblaw’s PC Black Label products. So much hype for so little flavour. Today I looked at one only because it’s on sale. PC Black Label Shrimp & Lobster Ravioli Grande. Of course I checked the ingredients to see just how much seafood is in there. Any guesses? If you went with zero, you’d be right. Maybe I missed something. Here is the ingredients list:
Ingredients
Filling: Burrata Soft Fresh Cheese (milk, Cream, Salt, Bacterial Culture, Bovine Rennet), Mozzarella Cheese (milk, Salt, Bacterial Culture, Microbial Enzyme), Ricotta Whey Cheese With Salt (milk, Whey, Cream, Salt, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid), Spreadable ‘nduja Pork Sausage (pork, Chili Peppers, Salt, Spices, Ascorbic Acid), Toasted Wheat Crumbs, Bechamel Sauce (partly Skimmed Milk, Water, Butter, Enriched Wheat Flour, Corn Starch, Sugar, Salt, Spices), Butter, Vegetable Oil, Sugars (lactose), Hard Ripened Cheese (milk, Salt, Bacterial Culture, Microbial Enzyme), Salt. Pasta: Durum Wheat Semolina, Liquid Whole Egg. May Contain: Mustard.
I too have not been particularly impressed with the black label products, so I haven’t bought any in awhile.
However, in this case I wonder if they put the wrong label on this product. The inclusion of the 'nduja and no mention of any seafood seemed strange. When I looked the product up online, the ingredient list was different: Wild shrimp (contains water, salt), vegetable oil, water, toasted wheat crumbs, partly skimmed milk, mozzarella cheese, wild lobster (contains salt)…
HILARIOUS. Way to lose a sale Loblaws.
I found nice Ontario asparagus at Fiesta Farms in Toronto today.
Already?!
there were also a few thick spears of white asparagus available, also from Ontario (less than a kg available)
At the Wood Owl on Danforth.
For anyone who loves their carbs: Metro has Molisana pasta for 99 cents a bag this week. My cupboard is now fully stocked.
I don’t like how starchy Molisana cooks up. Have you had better results? If so, what’s your secret?
I use a good (large) amount of water and have never experienced the pasta being starchy. I used to buy DeCecco and Delverde but we prefer Molisana.
