Grocery Outlet 2024 [NJ]

I noticed there are Grocery Outlet threads in other regions, but nobody in NJ has commented on them here. Has anyone visited the Hazlet store (in the old Toys R Us), and if so, do you have any comments? (That intersection is niche stores rich; it also has an Aldi and a Lidl.)

I’ve never been to one. Hazlet isn’t that close to me so I’m not sure I’d have any savings once you figure in the costs of getting there. Have you been?

I haven’t been, because I have had almost no free time, being the primary caregiver for Mark. Now that he is in rehab after an operation, I have been trying to check out the places I’ve wanted to. For example, I finally got to Lidl (see other thread). I’m thinking next time I get a haircut at Great Clips, I should pop across the street and see what GO is like.

Got it. Sorry to hear about Mark. I hope he is on the mend. While he is being cared for make sure you take care of yourself.

I’ve been a few times. The produce looked rather bedraggled so I didn’t look at the prices. There were some very inexpensive items (priced half or less than typical) in the refrigerated section (e.g. 12-oz package of spicy chicken sausages for ~$2), freezer section (e.g. frozen dinners for ~$2), and shelf-stable aisles (e.g. canned soup for ~$1). I think it’s a good place for someone willing to hunt for bargains. But that’s not me – I like to get everything I need as quickly as possible and with as few stops as possible – so I don’t regularly stop at GO in Hazlet even though I drive by there about once a week.

I wonder if you guys get the same inventory as we do on the west coast. Not produce I’d imagine but the rest of the stuff.

I’m with you on in and out as quick as possible; I can do both Costco and Aldi in under an hour, including 20 minutes driving.

(There was a line in a Zorro comedy where Zorro’s trainer tells him, “Get in, make your ‘Z’, and get out.” This is often quoted in our house.)
