What is the spiral sausage like dish? TIA
I am trying the pork souvlaki in a pita, village salad, baklava, and kataifi today, from the new 495 Bloor location in the Annex. Very happy to have this place west of Spadina.
Souvlaki Place also serves breakfast!
Fries wrapped in with the souvlaki in a pita, as is done in Greece.
The pork souvlaki in a pita is the best I have had in Toronto in a decade.
I tried the spanakopita and a frappe at Phyllo CafĂ© on Pape north of Mortimer. Itâs quite good. They use the thicker village -style filo.
I prefer a taller type of spanakopita with egg and herbs added, which is harder to find in restaurants.
This one is a flatter type which I associate with northern Greek cooking.
Phyllo CafĂ© also serves Greek -style crĂȘpes. I havenât tried the crĂȘpes.
Floga in Scarborough. I havenât been. My friendâs dadâs funeral lunch will be there this weekâŠ
I stopped at Menalon Bakery on St Clair near Oakwood today. Very impressed. The shop changed hands at some point over the past year.
Good selection of pantry goods, spoon sweets, at least 4 types of feta in brine, as well as package feta. Quite a few Greek chocolates and loukoumi /loqum/ delight . Olives. Cookies. Dakos. Must cookies. Olive oil cookies. Basically everything I typically buy at Seranoâs pantry section is available here.
They have tsoureki / Easter bread (Greek Easter is May 5th this year). They have cartons of dyed hardboiled Easter eggs.
They have squares of warm spanakopita and tiropita under a hear lamp. They have room temp loukamades.
I purchased dried beans ($4.50), Dodonis feta ($39/ kg- they also have Epirus feta, Bulgarian feta and Spartan feta, which are cheaper), galaktoboureko, spanakopita, Thessaloniki koulouraki (sesame bread ring).
The spanakopita was roughly equivalent to the spanakopita available at Athens Pastries on Danforth and on Vic Park, Serano Bakery on Pape, Phyllo CafĂ© on Pape the now defunct Akropolis. I like the filling slightly more than Athens. I prefer a taller version with a lot more spinach and more butter on the filo. The type sold at bakeries is this flatter type thatâs common in the North, Central Mainland and Peloponnese.
Lokum Eats in the Junction has a nice menu.

Pasaj has a Benny on Mucver/ zucchini fritters.

Pasaj now serves dinner.
@mrsleny , Iâll take a quick look at some restaurants in Vaughan where I would seek out vegan or vegetarian food.
Almost every Turkish restaurant will have a vegan lentil soup on the menu.
Off the top of my head, some places will have imam bayildi, spinach borek (could contain cheese, ask), Turkish salad.
Iâve seen vegetarian pumpkin manti but I havenât tried them.
I havenât tried any of these places.
In Thornhill
Many thanks!
Tried the sujuck pide from meat point (not my pick) oh boy below average and a tad above marche Istanbul
Wouldnât suggest even with a promo unless the intent is to just fill up
A lucky find: Mrakovic Fine Foods in Etobicoke. I tried one potato and one meat burek from the hot table. The filling was satisfying and the pastry was lovely and thin and well baked throughout. Next time Iâm going to try the chevapi. Some other patrons were ordering them and said they were excellent.
There is a fresh meat and cold cut/cheese cooler that looks well stocked and fresh, a pastry cooler, as well as a number of imported foods from the Balkan area. There is a freezer or cooler stocked with products made in their store. Many different kinds of Ajvar. When the Big J asked which one was best, the girl at the cash shouted âOURS!â with great conviction. We bought the Mrakovic spicy ajvar and it is, indeed, very good.
If youâre in the area, or if you feel like going for a drive, Mrakovic is worth checking out.
Sarajevo Grill at 225 The East Mall in Etobicoke also has excellent burek!
Sarajevo Grill IG profile, The East Mall
Sarajevo Grill also sells the Slovenian juices in the blue glass bottles. I like the blackcurrant juice and cherry juice. Better than Polish Hortex juice imo.
I also picked up some paprika.
Pastirma Benny on MĂŒcver/ zucchini fritter. ($24) and Menemen/ Shakshuka ($24) at Pasaj. 1100 Queen E in Leslieville. Nice patio.
Pape Village Restaurant on Pape has a hot table. I will check it out in Aug. Pape Village Restaurant also has a patio.
Mangal is opening new location in Richmond Hill on Yonge north of Weldrick, where Three Crowns was (and London Pub before that). Has anyone been to original Scarborough location?
Going to be competition for Saray up the street? Iâve not tried Turkish food at all so looking forward.
Oh I was going through this thread and noticed you went to chef Mustafa and not Mustafa restaurant (highly recommended)
Thanks for clarifying. I didnât realize there were two places with such similar names.
Ordered daymi courtesy of UberEats and got the shish taouk platter. While the chicken is decent and toum packs a punch itâs pricey imo for what you get (says serves 3-4)
Fries are ok but didnât travel well
Iâve been seeing some photos of the food at Masa Buka
and Pape Village Restaurant on Pape recently. It looks good.
Mezes is my usual go-to on the Danforth. Itâs often so busy.
I think I will check out the patio at Pape Village Restaurant soon.
I also have heard that the pork and leek sausages, frozen pastitsio and frozen moussaka available frozen at the Greek Grill are quite good.
Tried mayrik via delivery today.
Chicken skewer plate
Vegetarian plate and hummus
The portions are tiny for the chicken as barely one skewer (vegetable I understand as it was buy 1 get 1)
Toum was mild tahini was decent
Chicken was seasoned well and enjoyed by the guests
Same goes for rice (with lentils version)
Hummus was decent as well.
