I’ve read about this truck on Yelp, etc., (and I’m frequently at MoMA around the corner) but your post fixed itself in my mind. Desperately needing to be cheered up today I went down there and had 3 tacos – two birria and one carnitas. All very good. The consomme is a must for dipping, and the hot sauce they provide is useful to zip things up.
@BKeats or anybody else: that area is awash in yellow Halal Guys trucks, but on the block of the Birria truck (east side of 6th between 52nd and 53rd), there was a a deli truck (with nice pictures of pastrami) and a Caribbean (with oxtail, etc.). Have you tried them?
I walked through Urban Hawker on the way: several stalls have closed (the crab place on the right as you enter from 51st, for example), or have changed their offerings (no savory puffs at Lady Wong).
