We were down in George Square one afternoon early last week when we decided to try the afternoon tea at Browns Bar & Brasserie, located inside the beautiful, Victorian 130-year-old former General Post Office building.
Browns serves its aftenoon tea from 3pm onwards daily.
Cucumber & cream cheese, sandwich smoked salmon & cream cheese on whisky & thyme oatcake, and Coronation chicken sandwich
Brioche rolls: Lobster & prawn, egg & watercress
Victoria sponge, opera cake, chocolate macarons, elderflower & gin posset, carrot cake and salted caramel profiteroles
Scones with clotted cream & strawberry jam
Browns have been offering this afternoon tea for the past 45 years. I particularly liked the savoury finger sandwiches.

The set tea looked promising. With this for sure, no dinner afterwards.

For sure, it was pretty substantial. But we actually went to the Ubiquitous Chip at the West End later that evening - trying the make the most of our short stay in Glasgow.

I like the idea of smoked salmon and cream cheese on oatcakes. That oatcake looks thicker than the ones I’m familiar with — what was the texture like?

Surprisingly, not “sandy” as I’d expected.
