Fuji is a new-ish Japanese fusion-y place out on Broadway that’s moved into a space that’s hosted a number of high-end bar concepts over the years with none of them really catching on.
Fuji has modified the space with wood slats on the walls in the dining area with a lot of multicolored lighting to keep the bar area lively.
We stopped in for an early dinner during happy hour, so the partner was able to snag some cocktails.
Ryokucha Berry cocktail. Green tea vodka, simple, triple sec lemon, soda, blueberry. Very tasty.
Not pictured: House mule. Also very refreshing.
Poke tacos in fried wonton shells and salt + pepper chicken wings. Both really yummy. Wings came with a sweet chili sauce with a ketchup-y sort of note to it.
Garlic salmon, seared with fried garlic chips and a sushi-heavy pico de gallo.
Dragon roll. Shrimp tempura, krab, unagi, avocado. I know, I know, but I think of it as dessert. We both love these American sushi monstrosities, the same way we love a Filet o Fish or a Jack in the Box taco.
All said, a nice place that’s a good option of something besides the usual sushi/bento/ramen/udon of your typical mid price Japanese establishment. Happy hour was nice in that it allowed a smaller party of two smaller plate options so we could have a larger variety.
We’d go back to try their full dinner some point.
