Fraudulent card chargeback claims hitting restaurants

. . . . and this is why many small business do “Cash Only”

YIKES! Just another version of “dine and dash”. Some of those weekly chargebacks to the restaurant are an insane amount of money for a small family-run restaurant (£5,000 / $6500+ USD in 3 months for one restauranteur!).

My first thought was cash, and it was noted in the article (and in the comments). But also that restauranteur now says “He accepts Chip and PIN or Apple and Google Pay, as they require a PIN code or biometric identification, making it harder for customers to claim they are fraudulent.”

I honestly don’t know how supposed “adults” can do this to hardworking restaurant owners. :frowning:

Plenty of adult assholes in the world. Shameful.

Not here. I can’t recall the last time I came across anywhere that didnt take cards (although the cafe at a nearby garden centre does require a minimum £5 spend to use a card)
