We have been to a couple of very good places since we moved from NY, but this place knocked my socks off. It is located in a house that once belonged to Thomas Jefferson’s granddaughter, and for those who are familiar with the area used to be the location of the restaurant Preserved. This restaurant is FRENCH. The chef, Matthieu Landollon, is from Marseille and studied at Le Cordon Bleu. They also import what they can from France, so the wonderful baguette is served with Beurre d’Isigny from France. Service is friendly and excellent. Servers know what goes into each dish and can answer questions. The service manager makes the rounds of the tables several times during the meal and makes it clear the guest comes first.
What did we eat? My husband did all appetizers, starting off with the garlicy burgundy escargots, moving on to one of the best foie gras torchon we have tasted. It was served with a balsamic onion jam that I couldn’t stop stealing from his plate and sauternes brined apricots, cornichons and country toast. His “main” was steak tartare with fried leeks.
We shared the wonderful petite baguettes served with that wonderful butter and radishes. We brought couple home. I can’t wait for lunch. I had the duck confit with wine braised grapes and, wait for it… duck fat potatoes!! The confit was perfect – moist and meaty. For dessert, pots de crème……. heaven!!
This is a great place for a special occasion or not. The dining room is cozy French but they also have a lovely porch for dining as well. I am ready to go back NOW!!
