Fall in Asia 2025: Taipei

Two dear friends from California joined us in Taipei. On a Typhoon soaked evening, we umbrella’d up and scurried around the Da’an area for some good eats.

Da’an street has gradually gentrified over the past couple of decades, many of the authentic eateries have been displaced by trendy boutiques and more current food venues. There was one joint that we had passed by many times over the years and wanted to try, but as Yogi Berra says: Nobody goes there, its too crowded!!!

We walked by this rainy night and surprisingly, no queue!!! Tonight’s the night!!!

We happily treated our vistors to some satisfying simple Taiwan food. Taiwan Beer from a nearby 7-11.

In the morning, Typhoon Ragasa was still pouring rain on the Island. We stayed in and had breakast in-house.

Our hotel does a fine breakfast, and it was nice to be comfortable and dry.

Good breads with some fancy butters and spreads

Benedict with Sausage and Arugula

Omelette

A healthy dish of Sous Vide Chicken with some lovely sides

Looks like the rain is abating. DTF (Din Tin Fung) Soup Dumplings for lunch!!!

Breakfast looks great but that Taiwanese dinner – what an amazing spread!!

Nice spread!

Is the bamboo shoot seasoned with anything?

One of my favorite dishes. The bamboo is only boiled, as far as I can tell.

Crisp with a woodsy earthiness, a dab of mayo. Very refreshing.
