European Union "Region of Gastronomy" designations

Prior to HolyTerroir’s separate thread, I’d not come across these designations before. They’re a new thing, only recently created.

The regions designated for 2016 are Catalonia and Minho (northern Portugal)

For 1917, the designated areas are East Lombardy (as mentioned by HolyTerror’s thread), the Riga-Gauja region of Latvia and Aarhus & Central Denmark

A bit further ahead, Galway (west of Ireland) is bidding for recognition in 2018, as is the North Brabant region of the Netherlands.

Both Galway and North Brabant have been successful in their bids. They will be the only two for 2018.
