Esca New York

I know the opinions on this place are mixed but I had to post my very favorable experience. Service was impeccable, the wine steward hit a home run with his pick (and didn’t suggest a wildly expensive bottle). Crudo to start with strawberry grouper with tomato salt, amazing tuna carpaccio, so tender octopus over creamy corona beans, and local clams and scallops. Entrees of gnocchi, salmon, sea bass and pumpkin ricotta ravioli were amazing! Assorted desserts including a heavenly hibiscus lavender sorbet. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? A hundred times yes. Make reservations after 7:30 to avoid the theater crowd and have a relaxing evening.

I’ve been to Esca several times (although not recently) and it has always been a pleasant experience. The last time I was there the noise level seemed higher than usual and my main was WAY oversalted, but it wasn’t anything that would deter me from going back. I just never think of it unless I have a reason to be eating in that neighborhood.
