Épopée, Paris 11

Paris’s eleventh arrondissement is known for its concentration of high-quality restaurants, to which you can now add Épopée, which opened toward the end of last year. My report is here.

Wasn’t there an Épopée in the 15th for like 25 years?

No idea, but it’s not uncommon to have different restaurants of the same name in different arondissements. There are many La Rotondes in Paris, for example, none related AFAIK.

Thanks for the great coverage and enthusiastic endorsement. I’ve heard a few good things now about this restaurant, and have added it to my list of possibilities for a return trip to Paris in the spring. That lunch price point seems to be a truly incredible value proposition.

That looks so good. I would absolutely ask if I could get both entrees instead of entree plus plat. Or at least I could see myself doing this.

If only my mum decided to age in Paris instead of the sticks.

French beef is not always tough, but bavette is. It goes a level beyond chewy than I care to eat.

We went to Épopée on a Saturday evening.

The carte (no menu at dinner):

My wife’s white asparagus (ordered without shrimp) was fine.

My beef tartare with uni was really good, with the crisps adding great texture.

She enjoyed her seasonal vegetables with a hummus sauce.

My boneless pork chop with clams and asparagus was excellent.

Both the chestnut Mont Blanc and the rhubarb sorbet desserts were very good.

My inexpensive glass of red was unmemorable but went well enough with the pork.

Prices are reasonable. Nothing was “wow” (although the pork was close), but everything was worthwhile. We will very likely return.
