Yes and no. It does depend on what you have recently cooked, if I cook a fatty roast on high heat the fat will splatter and create some smoke. I could auto-clean after each cook but hat overkill as the smoke doesn’t last that long.

I tend to run the pyrolytic auto clean program every couple of months as its quite energy intensive - its about 1.5 to 2.5 hours at 900°F - but that seems to keep the oven really clean especially if I don’t roast with the convention setting (the oven has 12 different combinations).

You do need to be careful with modern self cleaning ovens if you don’t use the program to clean them. Cleaning manually can damage the surfaces which in turn means the pyrolytic function no longer works effectively i.e. from scratches caused by rigorous cleaning.
