Empreinte, 75002

Onzieme flagged up this place a couple of years ago since when it’s been mentioned occasionally on this site.
Two of us have just had an outstanding lunch there the day it reopened after the summer break which probably explained the fact there was only one other table occupied. We very much liked the decor with large windows onto the street, well spaced tables and comfortable seating.
We’d chosen the 3 course 42€ lunch (a modest 3€ increase in 2 years) which came with 3 amuse-bouches and 3 mignardises, all of them elaborate and delicious. The first course was a pork & octopus pâté en croûte, an unusual combination that worked well, with a beetroot condiment. The mains were 3 perfect medallions of confit roasted pork fillet served with celery purée so smooth it was more of a mousseline and a corsé meat jus with mustard seeds. The dessert was fig tartlets with a fig sorbet.
The menu is chosen by the chef on the day and there’s an opportunity to indicate any allergies/dislikes when making a reservation. They are justifiably proud of the carefully sourced ingredients which are all of the highest quality including the bread & butter.
After a glass of very dry white burgundy, we each wanted a glass of red and went with the recommendation of a 2021 Irancy, from a small vineyard run by Bersan father & son. It was so great we took the bottle.
If I really had to criticize something, it would be the use of pork in both first and main courses. That does not detract from our enjoyment of a wonderful meal that was tremendous value for money. We’ll be going back to have the 4 course 62€ lunch soonest.
