elm in New Canaan- New Chef and Great Food

A year ago Chef Brian Lewis left elm Restaurant in New Canaan and it was several months before a new chef arrived, and that new chef, Luke Venner is now creating some fantastic cuisine. I ran into him at the Greenwich Wine & Food Festival where his bites were some of the best and decided to return and see if the full menu was in the same league…it was.

During the course of the evening our table shared three appetizers and three entrees. The pumpkin and apple soup was deep in fall flavors, the Tuscan kale salad added a great Cheddar cheese to complement the outrageous bacon, and the Delicata squash tartine was delightful.

The entrees included and brined/smoked/seared short rib that was as tender as any I have ever eaten, a 100% Wagyu rib eye and a bright risotto, with an unusual ingredient, thin slices of orange peel to balance the truffle-infused mascapone.

Desserts were good, but each had a little issue. Will need to withhold accolades until the next visit, I hope.

It is great to see the restaurant is now back on the go-to list.
