El Rebost de Les Mil Illes, Prescott, Ontario

I just came across this Spanish deli/restaurant/tapas bar in (of all unlikely places) Prescott, Ontario. It’s in an industrial area, and you could well miss it.

It’s a small shop that carries numerous food items from Spain. They have one table for dining in, and a rudimentary patio that has a half-dozen or so tables. Next to the store is a facility that is being renovated into a restaurant.

Their story is that they used to be wholesale only, but when the pandemic hit, they had to do something with their large stock of food, so they started doing takeout.

They have an extensive menu, which is on their website. We happened to stop there an hour after dim sum, so could not eat very much.

We were offered Marcona almonds and hand-sliced Iberico ham, both really delicious. From the extensive tapas menu we ordered cod croquetas, which we loved, and Manchego cheese, which was served on bread with olive oil “pearls” instead of membrillo and which worked well. Not so successful was the grilled octopus. We definitely will return to try other items on the menu, as well as the paella. It will be nice to see how my paella stacks up to theirs.

I’m looking forward to returning. It’s only about an hour’s drive from Ottawa, so that will be soon.
