El Hijo del Tizoc - a new Mexican place in [Riverdale], [Toronto}

This place opened a few months ago, in the spot formerly occupied by Simon’s Wok. It’s a narrow space, with only 7 tables plus a few bar seats. The food and drinks are good, not necessarily worth a trip for, but a nice addition to the East Chinatown strip on Gerrard.

In terms of drinks, the Mezcalita was nicely limey, but a bit sweet. Better was the Mezcal Mule, with lots of ginger kick.

Sexy Birria comprised 3 hardshell tacos filled with tenderly stewed meat, with good depth of flavour, and a side of tasty consommé.

Pupusas Mamita were nicely crispy and delicious, although we couldn’t detect much chicken or conchinita pibil. They came with a side of coleslaw and salsa roja.

Pastel de Tres Leches was moist and quite sweet.
