Egg prices expected to rise more than 40% in 2025: USDA
- The USDA’s latest outlook predicts egg prices will increase 41% in 2025
- That’s more than double the USDA’s forecast a month ago
- Poultry prices are still expected to remain stable
Oops.
I really hope it doesn’t get worse in any food supply chain.
Eggs are often a loss leader around Easter and Passover (needed to compensate for the lack of leavening). One wonders if that will be the case this year.
I’m guessing not since at least in MN stores are struggling to keep them in stock in general.
Here’s to looking at price gouging in the plastic egg category. Note to self., go find the plastic eggs from last year
I never realized that was the Passover reason. I thought it was for the Seder plate.
A two dozen pack of eggs at our Costco today $4.89. “Limit 3 eggs per person”. Wally’s world was flat out of eggs, period. My egg lady delivered an 18 pack this morning, $9 for the best your money can buy here.
PNW holding steady at $10.39 for 18 commodity eggs.
Well, you need one for that, but you need a lot more for knaidlach and a lot of other dishes, especially baked goods.
Standing in the returns line at Costco today, I watched the people exiting. At least 75% of the carts had eggs, and many had two or three cartons.
ONLY about bird flu.
Which is why I purchase, rather than make, those things.
Friday at Costco in Lodi, CA, 2 dozen eggs were $8.99. At 9:45am, there was a moderate supply. I don’t know how quickly they’ve been selling out recently, but when I’ve been in the store after about, say, 2pm, the eggs are gone.
